Impact Hackathon Tackles The Global Health Crisis

Impact Hackathon Tackles The Global Health Crisis

The prevailing news topic of today is the global Covid-19 health crisis. It has shown and aggravated the cracks in our public health systems. Systems that billions rely on. But amid this crisis lies an opportunity to rebuild a more resilient world. That is why the Impact Hackathon 2021 is tackling health in its upcoming vertical from August 26 to 28.

Powered by Smart Communications and PLDT, the Impact Hackathon is the longest- and widest-running 5G hackathon in the Philippines. The Hackathon series runs until December with various verticals dealing with timely issues.

The Hackathon brings together the brightest and most creative minds from around the country. Aside from the 48-hour innovation sprint, participants can expect exciting learning sessions and networking events. They will learn from mavericks of start-ups and the health industry. From there, they will create technology-enabled solutions to public health issues that plague our society.

The Covid-19 pandemic has overturned many of the technological advances made across the globe, including those in the health sector. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has highlighted the need for preparedness in this sector, as well as ease of access to medical care and health services.

The future of health services relies on innovation and digitalization. It is high time we integrate and use technology for the delivery and for the investment critical to public health services.

To help participants prepare for the innovation sprint, Impact Hub Manila will hold learning sessions from August 23 to 25. Like-minded individuals with a creative spirit make up the Hackathon community. Expect to network, make new friends, and perhaps build a dream team to join to help you prevail at the Hackathon.

The Hackathon prizes for the top teams include Php35,000 for the grand prize, as well as Php25,000 and Php15,000 for the respective runner-ups. Apart from the cash prizes, all three winning teams will experience the impact-driven incubation support from Impact Hub Manila worth $20,000, as well as a one-year subscription with employment site Bossjob.

This is just the beginning for the bright and promising teams of the Hackathon. Major partners can provide mentorship as teams expand and grow their businesses. A Final Demo Day, with winners from the other verticals, is scheduled for December during the 2050Fest culmination event. Impact Hub Manila is committed to start and scale up impact-driven solutions, so all this is the much-needed launching pad tech entrepreneurs need to go nationwide.

The Impact Hackathon is part of Impact 2050, a flagship program of Impact Hub Manila to create large-scale economic progress through the activation of groundbreaking events and curated support for innovators. This multi-year program will equip, enable, and empower innovative individuals who want to affect change through technology.

We cannot deal with the cracks in our public health system through band-aid solutions. Whether you have a close-knit team or are a maverick currently riding solo, the Impact Hackathon is looking for you to help change the world for the better.
