The short answer: The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has rolled out the BIR Digital TIN ID inside the eGovPH app. Filipinos with a registered Tax Identification Number can now carry their TIN ID on their phone, free of charge, accessed through the eGovPH app’s Mobile ID Wallet. Below is the exact step-by-step process, the requirements you need to satisfy, and what to do if it does not work the first time.
The eGovPH app — built by the Department of Information and Communications Technology — is the country’s super app for citizen-facing government services. The newest addition, rolled out in April 2026, is the BIR digital TIN ID, which lets any Filipino taxpayer view a verified, government-issued digital version of their TIN ID directly inside the app. No more lost laminated cards, no more printing.
For the average Filipino employee or freelancer, this is convenient. For founders, freelancers, and small business owners — the audience Impact Hub Manila spends every day with — it removes a small but persistent friction point that used to slow down everything from opening a business bank account to onboarding to payment platforms. Here is the complete walkthrough.
What is the BIR Digital TIN ID?
The Tax Identification Number (TIN) is the unique number assigned to every Filipino taxpayer by the BIR. The TIN ID is the physical card issued to taxpayers as proof of their TIN. The BIR digital TIN ID is the official electronic version of that card, issued by the BIR and now accessible inside the eGovPH app’s ID wallet.
Important: this is not the BIR Form 1904 application. The digital TIN ID feature is for retrieving a TIN you already have. If you do not yet have a TIN, you still need to apply through your appropriate BIR Revenue District Office or via the BIR Online Registration and Update System (ORUS) at orus.bir.gov.ph.
What you need before you start
- A working smartphone (Android or iOS).
- A working internet connection.
- An active personal email address.
- An existing TIN already registered with the BIR.
- A digital TIN ID record already inside the BIR’s ORUS system. If your TIN was registered before ORUS came online and you have never accessed it digitally, you may need to first sign in to orus.bir.gov.ph to ensure your record is migrated.
- Personal details (full name, date of birth, etc.) that match your BIR records exactly. This is the most common cause of failure.
How to get your BIR Digital TIN ID via the eGovPH app: step-by-step
Download the eGovPH app
Search for "eGovPH" on Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS) and install it. The official publisher is the Department of Information and Communications Technology. Make sure you are downloading the legitimate app — check the publisher name carefully. The app icon is a stylized blue circle with the eGov mark.
Create your eGovPH account
Open the app and select "Sign Up." Enter your real personal details exactly as they appear on your government records — full name including middle name, date of birth, and contact information. This is the single most important step. If your eGovPH details do not match your BIR records, the digital TIN ID retrieval will fail.
Verify via email, OTP, and set your MPIN
You will receive a verification email and a one-time PIN (OTP) via SMS or email. Enter both. Set your six-digit Mobile PIN (MPIN), which is what you will use to log in going forward. Optionally enable biometric login (fingerprint or face) for faster access.
Open the Mobile ID Wallet inside eGovPH
From the eGovPH home screen, navigate to the section labeled "Mobile ID Wallet" (sometimes shown as "ID Wallet" or simply "Wallet" depending on the version). This is where all your digital government IDs live — National ID, PhilHealth, SSS, and now BIR.
Select BIR Digital TIN ID
Tap the BIR Digital TIN ID tile. The app will pull your record from the BIR ORUS system. If your eGovPH profile matches your BIR record, your digital TIN ID will appear on screen, complete with your TIN, full name, and other verification details. You can save it to your phone’s wallet, take a screenshot, or display it directly when needed.
What to do if it does not work
The BIR has been transparent about the most common failure modes. If you cannot retrieve your digital TIN ID, here is how to debug:
- Profile mismatch. The most common cause. Your eGovPH details (especially middle name and date of birth) must match your BIR record character for character. Double-check both sides.
- No ORUS record. If your TIN predates ORUS or you have never used the digital BIR system, log in to orus.bir.gov.ph first. Once your record exists in ORUS, you should be able to retrieve it inside eGovPH.
- Multiple TINs. Filipinos who were issued more than one TIN over the years (which is illegal but happens) need to consolidate at their RDO before the digital ID will work. A consolidation request takes up to 30 days.
- Web alternative. If the app is not working for you, the same digital TIN ID can be retrieved by signing in to orus.bir.gov.ph and selecting "Get Your Digital TIN ID" from the menu.
“The BIR aims to make services easier to access and to help reduce illegal activities like fixers. With the digital version, users can keep a copy of their TIN ID on their phone for easier use when needed.”

Why this matters for Filipino founders and freelancers
It is easy to underestimate how often the TIN ID slows down everyday business. Some examples we have seen at Impact Hub Manila in just the last six months:
- A founder couldn’t open a business bank account on the day she planned to because her physical TIN ID was lost.
- A freelance designer onboarding to a US client could not complete W-8BEN-E paperwork because the client’s compliance system required a clear TIN ID image.
- A Hubber registering on a fintech KYC flow had to delay funding by a week because his card was so faded the OCR system rejected it.
All three of those situations would have been solved with a tap inside the eGovPH app. For founders and freelancers, the BIR digital TIN ID is not a curiosity — it is operational infrastructure.
Quick FAQ on the BIR Digital TIN ID
Is the BIR digital TIN ID free? Yes. The BIR has explicitly warned against paying fixers for what is a free government service.
Is the digital TIN ID accepted as a valid government ID? Yes, it carries the same legal validity as the physical TIN ID for transactions where TIN verification is required.
Can OFWs and Filipinos abroad use the eGovPH digital TIN ID? Yes, as long as you have an existing TIN and an active eGovPH account. The app works internationally.
What if I do not have a TIN yet? The eGovPH digital TIN ID feature is for retrieving an existing TIN. To register a new TIN, apply at your appropriate BIR Revenue District Office or through the BIR ORUS system.
Is my data safe inside eGovPH? The eGovPH app is operated by the DICT and follows the data privacy provisions of the Data Privacy Act of 2012. Treat your MPIN like any other banking PIN.
